Many instances of conflict in the society today is caused by moral convictions which are interpreted as right when viewed from a moral attitude and wrong when scaled on others. However, this escalates when self-interests take precedence over the virtue of reaching a common ground or a compromise. Morality is relative and people, societies have different orientation regarding values, norms and perspective orientation. There is a sense in which personal, social circumstances can dictate the direction and extent of conflict on any agenda. There is no precise argument on both sides which can warrant a compromise to be reached. Individuals or groups can fit in this category and contribute in the informing of the shape and course of the conflict, with the most severe one’s being group based because they represent a substantial populace who hold a dissenting view on a certain narrative.
There is a sense in which intractable conflicts have formed the bulk of discordance between individuals, groups and even nations in the world today. Everyone wants to feel self-worth and responsible for the development of the society regardless of the means and objectives they have. Intractable attitudes have been responsible for the critical conflicts which have given the world the social, political and economic blocks the world has today. Therefore, there is a sense in which people in the world feel they are responsible for causing of development of the affairs in the society, regardless of how unpopular their means and consequences are.
Many world leaders have used diverse methods to better the world to their own liking, which is in this perceptive, been motivated by a negative or positive patriotism. Patriotism informs how people will formulate and act on the policies which they deem detrimental to the society. Liberal or autocratic leaders all have the same objective, only that they use different means to achieve them. This is the reason why there have been dissenting voices in the world as a way of giving alternative ways of solving issues of moral concern.
