Nursing:Core Competencies for a New Vision for Health

“Core Competencies for a New Vision for Health Professions Education”

In the field and practice of nursing, the application of patient-centered care is paramount for the success of the clinical service of the patients (Rubenfeld & Scheffer, 2015). In this regard, patients are asked to give an opinion of their health care and the services which they are getting, to be able to accurately assess the impact of the health care to the patients. This therefore calls for a healthy relationship between the nurse and the patients which are determinate in the treatment outcomes and the patient’s satisfaction which health care. This therefore calls for an interpersonal relationship of the health professional and the patient. Customized treatment recommendations should be given for it to conform to the lifestyle of the patient.

Working as an interdisciplinary team ensures that all stakeholders and participants in the health facility are oriented into providing excellent health care to the patients. A good relationship between doctors who examine the patients, those who administer treatment and the laboratory facilities ensure that the patient is treated with the best care and concern(Rubenfeld & Scheffer, 2015). One must, therefore, understand the roles and responsibilities which are bestowed upon him or her for the provision of health care as a team and the use of the available resources for quality care. Due to the diversity of knowledge and experience, there are high chances of reduction of duplication or roles and high chances of solving complex issues, when an issue id handled by a team (Freed, 2017).

In this case, one takes responsibility for own behavior and recognizes the personal knowledge base, capabilities, and willingness for lifelong learning from peers. This is in the case of application of evidence-based practice which incorporates an understanding of the standards of practice in the profession by making decisions which are informed from an empirical point of knowledge (Ozdemir, & Duffy, 2016). One should appreciate professional comportment about the administration of health care to the patients. This, therefore, calls for the integration of clinical expertise, best evidence in research and the values of the patient bin provision of health care.

One must be open for improvement of the health care he or she provides. Therefore, one must be open for feedbacks, provide views and be open to critique. The ability to reflect on the for an action, reflection on an action and reflection in action is fundamentally essential for the improvement of healthcare. Effective communication is key when people are working as a unit (Freed, 2017). Therefore, demonstration of the ability to understand the effectiveness of communication through various means is essential for the connectedness between staff members and patients.

The facility has a communication network which links the patients and the hospital in real-time, this ensures that those who need to have issues about treatment can communicate with the facility any times of the day. In this case, the health care is individualized to cater for the lifestyles of patients (Freed, 2017). In the administration of health care, there is a collaboration between the doctor, laboratory staff, pharmacist, dietician and the patient, all working as a team for quality patient care. This is to prevent long-term complication.

The facility provides education to the patient to foster self-management of the health of the patient. It is therefore essential that we take patients through self-care behaviors to manage their health when out of the facility. The facility’s registry is constantly updated to get a good report on the provision of health care and monitor the occurrence of diseases to have measures to curb new infections and educate people on the prevalence of some diseases based on the report. The facility has an integrated information technology which has data for the patients. It is easy to get information from the system as opposed to the use of usual paperwork.

In conclusion, core competencies in the profession of nursing are essential for the provision of quality health care which is in line with the lifestyle of the 21st century. It is therefore a matter of principle that health practitioners should apply these core competencies in their fields of practice. Each health facility should create a favorable environment where the core competencies can be practices for optimum health care.
