Guidelines For Child Development



One of the guidelines which are essential for child growth and development is health, nutrition, and safety (Graham, 2011). This is an aspect of a child development which seeks to establish an awareness of the issues which affect the health and safety of children.

Awareness of the health of children is essential because it informs the practices of universal health precautions. These include the symptoms of childhood diseases, and their spread (Gordon, 2012). This then includes the practices such as handwashing, tooth brushing, and routine eating. Nutrition will involve the awareness of needs which fulfill the social, physical, cognitive and emotional growth optimally. In this case, one will have the ability to have good nutritional and practices and policies to give infants, preschoolers, toddlers and other young children with nutrition adequately (Gordon, 2012). Awareness of the safety of the children will necessitate the safety precautions and policies by creating a hazard-free environment, social and legal protection of a child from abuse.


The other guideline is recognizing that each child is unique and has distinct abilities. One should be aware that children are unique physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially (Graham, 2011). However, much children can have common characteristics; they individually should be respected by both teachers and parents. In this case, it will help the child develop their abilities, talents, and personality regardless of their religion, gender, race, disability or ethnicity (Lerner & Lonigan, 2014). Such awareness helps the adult to set a child to a developmental pathway. Treating a child uniquely will influence the designing of an environment which will develop all other aspects of a child positively. This is in the cognitive, emotional, social and physical domains of development which give a child the aptitude to support behaviors which are socially acceptable (Lerner & Lonigan, 2014). A child will have a unique attitude towards cooperation and persistence, all of which are essential values of being productive in the society. To conclude, such awareness will aid an adult to nurture youths and children who are acceptable citizens of the society.
