Plato’s Argument-Good people are far much happier than evil people

Plato’s Argument

Good people are far much happier than evil people. This is because good people will engage in things that are positive and hence will limit the amount of stress that is accompanied by the worst of actions. Moreover, when one is good they have this sense of relief inside them that makes them happier and satisfied. The evil people cannot be happy since each time they think of engaging themselves in something that may eventually cause harm to others. This keeps their mind fixed on the negative side hence hinders them from being happy due to being so engaged in planning the worst. This paper will look into Plato’s argument and find out if good people are happier than evil people.

Plato’s argument, in this case, is that there is no value if a person decides to be just and what he sees are simply repercussions hence he sees no harm in letting a person be unjust if they don’t end up in trouble. He further argues that those who engage themselves in justice do it unwillingly (Plato 33). This he says pointing out that a person who may disagree may have gone through injustice in a way but did not have any way of defending themselves but as soon as they attain the power they become more unjust and hence feel fulfilled. Plato also thinks the life of the unjust is much better than that of the just one (Plato 34). In that, a person who is just and thought not to be just may go through a lot of pain. On the other hand, a person who is unjust and goes further to prove they are just goes through a triumphant moment. Plato argues that justice is only valued due to the good consequences that accompany and that there is no greater reason (Plato 32). There is no intrinsic value that comes with justice. Anything that people term as good is being accompanied what pleases them and hence they term it as good.

Plato is right. Despite his argument being strong and logic he is also very realistic. In the sense that this happens in people lives at times people may fail to notice but it is really there. Plato’s way of arguing and allowing reality to dawn on people’s mind is very clear in today’s century those who do good go barely noticed. On the other hand, those people who engage themselves in things that are evil or unjust get lots of attention and their actions go unnoticed. So, of what good is engaging in something that is good yet the evil will always prevail and be happier. Therefore, happiness is the state of being emotionally and mentally well and can be further said to be the act of being content and joyful. In conclusion, the good people are often denied the sense of happiness and ironically the evil people enjoy happiness. Despite all this, the good people will always have a way of being happier since their mental and emotional state will be free of negativity.
