Looks Can Deceive: Why Perception and Reality Don't Always Match Up

This is an article written by Christof Koch on the idea that there is an explainable reason why reality and perception do not match. The author is inclined to ascertain the matter in which humans should use perception to survive or perish. The article is of the opinion that humans have evolved in the manner of their perception of the reality and therefore it has changed on how they interact with the environment. The methodology which is used is a qualitative one coupled with sensory experiments, which seeks to determine that perception and reality are not the same and humans who have not conformed to the new reality are unfit to survive the dangers in the world. The result is that humans tend to use one of the two most critical sensory nerves which should function in tandem, but humans have overemphasized in one. The result is that life, in general, requires that each of the persons to have a perception which gives self-adjustments of the sensory one reacts to. The idea is that the sensory perceptions of an individual are constantly evolving and not static. The human perception has been barricaded by transient factors which hinder the optimum use of sensory nerves.

A challenge to objective perception in hearing and seeing in counselling psychology

This is an article which implies on several issues regarding therapeutic conversations. It considers the extent of the assumption that therapist is able to see and hear accurately during sessions of therapy. It is in this context that the author deduces that the training in which the therapists have is not adequate to equip them with sensory of hearing and seeing which are circular in nature and observer dependent. It uses a multidisciplinary research finding where western epistemology is used to determine the challenge of objective seeing and hearing which are essential for clinical councelling in therapeuticall sessions. The result is that the aspects of hearing and seeing are ussually subjective and personal. Using subjectivity in person is claimed to be the faster way which the trainers can imbue the skills of at least an impartial observer with independent thinking. The paper addresses the issue that the modalities of seeing and hearing are not well addressed in the praxis of the councelling psychology. The article gives a view that the errors in human sense perception are critical in the formation of the conversations of therapy. It is an argument which is given from the perspective of research where it negates the importance of objectivity in human perceptions.

Understanding human perception by human-made illusions

Baron, (2015) "A challenge to objective perception in hearing and seeing in counselling psychology," Kybernetes, Vol. 44 Issue: 8/9, pp.1406-1418,

According to the article, it can be fun to perceiving illusions, but the point of understanding how they work is one thing which is more stimulating than it is sustainable. This is because they can give one a capacity and the limits of the perceptual apparatus and how they are found. They are also in such a manner that they can specify ways in which challenges in perceptions are set. It is in this sense that the author bases his argument with the precept that they are essential because they let humans analyze the sub processes of cognitive abilities in perception. Illusions, when viewed in a scientific manner, are not put in such a way to expose the humans’ failures in perception, but rather they give a certain power to human perception.

The fundamental issue of human perception is in such a way in which it can strengthen and amplify the sensory inputs of humans. This is in the sense that they can orientate, perceive and act swiftly in efficiency and specific manner. It is research which compiles various illusions which are aimed at determining the perception is a grand illusion in that it can be used to entertain people or the beginning of creating insights. The result is that illusions could increase the insights of the people making them capable of acting to sensory inputs very fast. When the daily activities of an individual are considered, humans can experience a higher intelligence of perceptual system efficiently.
