Laws of Competing Demands; A case analysis of self driving cars.

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

Moral decisions are decisions made in such a means that actions or inaction adapt to one’s morals. The idea of driverless cars brings in moral decisions where the machine intelligence has to choose a lesser evil between two evils like killing the pedestrians nearby or the passenger.

I support the idea behind driverless cars which is to increase public safety by reducing human error. Although ethical concerns are a bit ubiquitous when it comes to driverless cars laws should be implemented to allow the idea of machine intelligence to choose between two lesser evils where the machine will be allowed to make decisions based on the impact of the accident.

The idea of a driverless car can only be implemented if society accepts a machine intelligent enough to make a moral decision. According to the department of transport, there have been 1.2 million accident deaths worldwide, the fact that driverless cars can reduce accidents by 90% will in turn reduce the number of deaths by accident. I believe that if driverless cars can reduce accidents by 90% then laws can be put in place to cater to ethical concerns. Laws can create a solution to the ethical issues which will allow society to accept driverless cars and leading to technological dvancement.

Labor laws offer protection to the employee and the employer as they illuminate and codify business owners’ responsibilities to their employees. Following the policies in fair labor standard act the I have realized that the labor laws have impact businesses in different ways, they have improved workers' safety and increased workers' bargaining power towards their employers and also resulted in profiting employers in terms of employee productivity.

I believe that these laws benefit employers in that they help keep their employees safe and healthy and in turn, they get productive employees. The Fair Labor Standard Act protects employees from working extra hours without compensation this in turn allows the competing demands for employees to be balanced. The act also protects the employees from unfair treatment and allow them to have a say on their working conditions. I believe that the better the labor laws the higher the productivity of the business, as seen on the Fair Labor Standard Act these laws have been able to put in place and have influenced business positively.

The fair labor standard act allows balancing of competing demands towards some business in that it allows the employers to balance out the input of the workers and the profit of the business. The labor law act allows the employer to balance the wages and the number of hours worked by their employees this then portrays whether the business is successful or not. In an employee case, their working hours are compensated and this then results in a productive business. The fair labor standard act then is a major advantage in the business venture where it outlines how employees should be treated and what responsibilities employees should take. From my perspective, I believe that the labor laws have allowed the business to balance their input to the workers and their output that is they can allow the growth of the business while providing the best working condition and compensation to their employees.

In general, the labor laws have impacted the business positively allowing growth and development of employees. I believe that the Fair Labor Standard Act has struck the right balance between the demands of the employer and the employee. The productivity of a business is reflected by the way employees are treated and since businesses have strived through the fair labor standard act then the act has balanced the competing demand
