Analytic Reflection Paper on the Theorizing Globalization by Douglas Kellner

Analytic Reflection Paper on Theorizing Globalization

The article by Keller which is on the Theorization of Globalization delves on the transformation in the world of politics, economy and cultural factors in the manner of a theoretical application. This is an aspect which he expounds on the cyclical and reciprocal relationship of communications and technology based on the restructuring of capitalism globally. He then explores the aspect of globalization as for a dialect between the emancipatory and progressive factors coupled with negative and positive attributes. Taking these factors into account, the author seeks to conclude that the aspect of globalization is beyond economic and technological optics to understand globalization as an issue which is contradictory, ambiguous, and highly complex issues of institutions and social relations.

One of the aspects which are of fundamental value denoted by Keller is his correlation of Neo-liberalism with this aspect of globalization. In his studies, Keller concludes that determinists of economics have linked the globalization as a result of the market principles which are neo-liberal and have liberal value for capitalist or that they have autocratic tendencies for those who resist global economy. He then argues that the development of global information in the current era is not mainly because of the technological or economic systems but rather techno-capitalism. He then continues to expound on the idea that this new neoliberalism of global economy does not depend on the technological domination but rather the restructuring of the relations of capitalism, production and global economy.

The article is favourable because it seeks to explore how the globalization contradicts itself by having increased democratic models of governance and on the other hand putting the models of governance in a subservient position of capitalistic logic and market systems. It proves that the homogeny of the creation of the mass culture, which is in tandem with the spreading of democracy and the value placed on heterogony on the local levels of governance.
